For our inaugural 12Originals release, we teamed up with RETNA and master print maker Claudio Stickar for an edition of 12 monotypes.

RETNA really needs no introduction. He's fresh off an explosive 15-page feature and cover of September's Juxtapoz magazine with a glowing introduction by MOCA's new director- Jeffrey Deitch. Last week, RETNA finished a commission by The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas alongside of Kenny Scharf and Shepard Fairey, and, this week, he's in Detroit painting alongside of Richard Colman for the Juxtapoz x Power House restoration project. RETNA is also slated for a solo show at Primary Flight during Art Basel Miami. Needless to say, he's staying quite busy ahead of his participation in the 2011 MOCA exhibit (See recent Financial Times coverage here).

Each piece sells for $1800 including taxes and insured second day shipping within the continental United States. All orders are fulfilled from Los Angeles, California.

ABOUT MONOTYPES

Monotyping is a process where the artist paints an image on glass and then transfers the image to paper with the help of a press. The subtractive process creates brilliant color fields and truly enables the artists' spontaneity. Although the online images don't do the pieces any justice, you can note that the contrast and tones are truly magnificent. In addition, these pieces are truly significant in size- 30 inches by 44 inches. Our print maker, Claudio Stickar, has been the personal master print maker for Chuck Arnoldi, Frank Gehry, Richard Serra, Roy Lichtenstein and Robert Rauschenberg.

ABOUT RETNA

RETNA specializes in images that are timeless, simultaneously old and new. His paintings of religious figures feel as old as icons despite the DayGlo colors and modern style. His unique use of the Latin alphabet to encode English and Spanish messages in his work marries the ancient to the modern, and uniquely taps into the eternal and the shared. When you look at the words, something deep inside your brain tugs at you with familiarity, an understanding buried in the Jungian collective unconscious.

RETNA’s work is featured around the world--his collaborative murals can be seen on the streets of Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Miami, New York, Mexico City, Barcelona and Milan. His most recent exhibitions include showing at Volta Basel in Switzerland, Desaturated at New Image, and the Los Angeles Art Show.
